CORRECTION: Because of a reporter's error, the New Year's Day closure list incorrectly stated that all area schools would be closed Monday. Some schools, including Walla Walla, College Place and Dayton will be open. We regret the error.
The New Years Day holiday is Sunday. The following closures or special hours or days of service will be in effect.
OFFICE BUILDINGS: All federal and state offices will be closed Monday. Walla Walla, Umatilla and Garfield county offices will be closed Monday. Columbia County offices will be open Friday and Monday. Walla Walla, College Place and Milton-Freewater city offices will be closed Monday.
POST OFFICES: Post offices will be closed Monday and the only service will be express delivery.
BANKS: All banks will be closed Monday.
SCHOOLS: Schools will be closed Monday.
LIQUOR STORES: Washington liquor stores will be open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on New Years Eve. They will be closed Sunday and open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday. The Milton-Freewater liquor store will be open Saturday, closed Sunday and open Monday.
DEPT. OF LICENSING: The Department of Licensing office on Jade Street in Walla Walla will be closed Saturday. It will open again Tuesday.
TRANSPORTATION: Valley Transit will only operate Job Access program Sunday. Normal service will resume Monday but business offices will be closed.
DAM CROSSINGS: Crossings on Lower Granite, Little Goose and Lower Monumental dams will be closed.
LIBRARIES: The Walla Walla Public Library will be open Saturday and closed Monday. The Milton-Freewater Public Library will be closed Saturday and Monday.
GARBAGE: The city of Walla Walla and city of Milton-Freewater will collect Monday's garbage on Tuesday. Recycling pickup for Walla Walla residents will be on the same schedule. Basin Disposal will collect on its regular schedules but earlier than usual.
Customers need to have it out by the night before.
NEWSPAPER DELIVERY: The Union-Bulletin will publish Sunday on its regular schedule. People should receive their paper by 7 a.m. Those who don't receive their paper Sunday should call the U-B circulation office, 525-3301, by 10:30 a.m. The U-B offices will be closed Monday, but that day's newspaper will be published and delivered on a normal afternoon schedule.
