Pirates grapple to second place in Pullman

PULLMAN, Wash. - Tory Knebel won the Pullman Christmas Tournament for the fourth year in a row here Wednesday as his Pomeroy Pirates placed second at the 17-team tourney.

Cheney won the event with 152 points, Pomeroy had 126 and Prairie 113.

The Pirates' Jacob Moore won the 145-pound class, Knebel the 170 class and Austin Reisdorph the 195-pound class.

Pomeroy freshman Clayton King was second at 106 pounds, Mike Wymore third at 120 and Nick Tewalt fourth at 152 for the Pirates' second-place finish.

Also wrestling for Pomeroy were Kyle Hyer (132), Wyatt Heyer (138), Taylor Lewis (145), Tyler King (160) and Jacob Shuh (160).

"I thought our kids did a great job," Pomeroy coach Brian Slaybaugh said. "It's Christmas break, and it can be hard to get up for a match."

Pomeroy next has a match against Wa-Hi and Mac-Hi wrestlers Wednesday at Wa-Hi.
