WALLA WALLA - DeSales' inside-outside tandem of Abby Crowley and Annie Higgins proved to be too efficient for Weston-McEwen in the girls championship game of the annual D.A. Davidson Christmas Classic Thursday night on George Ball Court at Sherwood Center on the Whitman College campus.

Crowley scored a game-high 17 points and Higgins added 16 as the Irish completed a perfect 3-0 Classic performance with a 59-46 victory.

DeSales, despite missing injured starter Ali Zander, upped its record to 6-2. The TigerScots slipped to 7-3.

Morgan Entze, who led Weston-McEwen with 16 points, scored eight points in the opening quarter as the TigerScots built a four-point lead, 12-8.

Crowley helped to pull the Irish even by halftime with eight second-quarter points on four field goals in six shots.

The teams went into intermission tied 23-23.

Crowley and Ashlyn Lyons scored five points apiece in the third quarter. That, coupled with 53-percent shooting from the field, resulted in a 42-37 DeSales lead with eight minutes remaining.

Higgins came to life in the final quarter with four treys in five tries from the periphery of the 3-point line that allowed the Irish to establish double-figure separation from the TigerScots.

Crowley and Higgins were among a happy group of DeSales players that coach Tim Duncan saluted afterward.

"We played really well," Duncan said. "We had two players in double figures, but I'm not sure who the player of the game was. Annie hit some huge shots in the fourth quarter. Abby started knocking down shots inside. Ashlyn (with eight points and five rebounds) played her best game of the year.

"Claire Konen (with seven points and an equal number of rebounds) was outstanding," Duncan said. "She did all the intangibles. Allison Wujek (seven points) stepped up and made a huge 2 when they had a chance to make a run in the fourth quarter. Stephanie Ferrel contributed at the defensive end, and penetrated and distributed the ball. And in the last three games, Chantel Blanc played the best defense she's played in four years."

The TigerScots placed one other player in double figures. Molly von Borstel scored 13 points and gained possession of a game-high 10 rebounds.

Weston-McEwen coach Amber Doremus was gracious in defeat.

"DeSales has great shooters," Doremus said. "We gave them (long looks at the basket). But we fought all the way through and played tough."

Both teams return to action on Tuesday. DeSales travels to Pomeroy and Weston-McEwen plays at Waitsburg-Prescott.
