HELIX - Walla Walla Valley Academy post player Megan Gregg was missing from the Knights' lineup due to illness, and that contributed to Powder Valley picking up 16 points off offensive rebounds in a 42-29 victory over WWVA to close the Helix Christmas Tournament.
The Knights, which opened tournament play with a 63-20 victory over the host Grizzlies Wednesday, were outscored 12-4 in the first quarter.
They pulled within two in the second quarter, but the Badgers found their game and held a 24-10 halftime lead.
"They really beat us up on the offensive boards," WWVA assistant coach Lloyd Redberg said. "We were slow out of the gate, pulled within two, and then they took over."
Powder Valley was led by Jessica Pedro's 17 points and 14 rebounds led the Badgers.
"Most of Pedro's damage came off inside boards or baseline jumpers," Redberg said.
The Knights were led by Kristi Buell's 11 points, with Emily Field putting up eight.
