OREGON CITY, Ore - Walla Walla Community College ended 2011 on a high note here Friday morning with an 83-78 win over Linn-Benton to earn fourth place at the Clackamas Crossover men's basketball tournament.

Peninsula downed host Clackamas 85-65 to claim the title.

The Warriors hit eight 3-pointers in the first half to jump to a 48-38 lead at intermission and held off the Roadrunners to earn the win.

"We had a good first half," WWCC coach Jeff Reinland said. "They tried to zone us and we shot the ball pretty well. We had a couple of opportunities to get up a lot more, but couldn't get it done."

The Warrior shooting cooled off, with 3-of-12 from behind the arc in the second half, and the Roadrunners came back to grab a two-point lead.

"We were a little careless in the middle of the second half and they got back in the game," Reinland said. "We made some unforced errors, but we were able to hold on."

Jay Payne, who finished with 16 points for the Warriors, hit two treys down the stretch and the Warriors hit 12-of-15 free throws over the last 20 minutes to rally back and hold on for the 83-78 win.

The Roadrunners' Joseph Vance led all scorers with 25 points.

"We only hit 11-of-23 free throws in our loss to Everett (to open the tourney)," Reinland said. "You just don't know what we'll get offensively. Our defense has been pretty good and it was today, as they are pretty good."

The Warriors had four players score in double digits, led by the 19 of Dylan Radliff.

Payne scored 16, Dallen Bills added 11 and Michael Crane chipped in 10 for WWCC.

Walla Walla concludes non-conference play at 9-4 with its 2-1 tournament record. The Warriors open NWAACC East Region play Saturday when Columbia Basin visits the Dietrich Dome.

"I'm cautiously optimistic (about league play)," Reinland said. "Everybody is pretty decent and we'll take it one game at a time, but it's always good to open at home."
