DeSales girls unable to hold early lead against Aostin

ASOTIN - DeSales took a seven-point lead, 24-17, into the break but was unable to protect it in the second half here Friday night in a girls Southeast 2B District basketball game.

Asotin rallied to claim a 45-35 victory and raise its league mark to 7-3 and its season record to 10-8. The Irish, who played at first-place and undefeated Waitsburg-Prescott on Saturday, dipped to 7-2 and 12-5.

Zara Reynolds scored 15 points and Jessica Prior added 14 to lead the Panthers' offense. Annie Higgins, with nine points, and Erin Giusti, with eight, paced the Irish.

Giusti also grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds and DeSales held a 35-30 advantage on the glass. Reynolds led the Panthers with eight rebounds.

"We didn't play very well in the second half," Irish coach Tim Duncan said. "We played well in the first half and did a good job. We got a lot done we wanted to, but we didn't execute in the second half."
