ATHENA - Tiffany Cain's strong all-around game wasn't enough to prevent a 51-35 defeat as Weston-McEwen bowed to Blue Mountain Conference rival Pilot Rock in girls prep basketball play here Friday night on the TigerScots' home floor.

Cain finished the night with 13 points, 14 rebounds and three assists.

The TigerScots saw their record slip to 6-5 in the BMC and 8-12 overall going into a Saturday night game at Elgin. The Rockets improved to 10-1 and 17-3 and were set to play at home against Stanfield Saturday.

W-M jumped out to a 12-9 first-quarter lead, but the TigerScots were outscored 14-3 in the second period and never recovered.

"The girls played hard," W-M coach Amber Doremus said. "They tried to stay positive and limit them. They really gave out a good effort.

"We played Pilot Rock tougher than earlier in the season, and the Rockets really are a good team."

Jardan Jeppe scored 11 points and Ashley Gambill and Elizabeth Willingham added 10 points each to pace the Rockets.
