Wa-Hi students compete in Science Bowl over weekend

Eight Walla Walla High School students competed with students on more than 63 teams from around the region in the 20th annual Bonneville Power Administration Regional Science Bowl on Saturday in Portland.

The Science Bowl is a quiz-style question-and-answer competition that challenges students on math and science concepts.

The weekend competition marked the sixth year a team from Wa-Hi has competed in events. With support from the First Presbyterian Church in College Place and Pacific Power, and coaching from Bill Erickson and his wife, Diana, students from Wa-Hi's Latino Club and Exploring Post 311 have consistently represented the school in the competition.

Exploring Post 311 is a Learning for Life program, which is a subsidiary of the Boy Scouts of America, Erickson said in the release.

The students are: Teresa Olivos, Paola Flores, Anthony Olivos, Yesica Olivos, Gesner Rangel, Jos Beleche, Sergio Galvn and Mariela Bahena.
