Em, as known to friends and family, was born to Ella Mae (Conk) and Emerson Clay Wheeler Sr., in Mountain Home, Idaho, and grew up in various locations in Idaho and Oregon, including McCall, Ida., Vale, Ore., and Ontario, Ore. He graduated from Ontario High School in 1947, where he played football, basketball, and track. Em married Joyce Frasier and moved to Pendleton, in 1950 and worked as an apprentice plumber and manager for Jones-Kay Plumbing Co. In 1966, he started Wheeler Plumbing & Heating Company, where he worked as owner/manager until his retirement in 1993.

After divorcing, he later married Rosalie Bergevin of Walla Walla, on Dec. 26, 1992. Em Rosalie lived in Pendleton until 2006, when they moved to College Place. Em was a member of the Rotary Club, 4 - 6 Club, the Pendleton Elks Club, Killcare, the Pendleton Country Club and the Presbyterian Church. Em enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and he especially loved snow skiing and spending time at the family cabin at Anthony Lakes, Ore. Em also enjoyed trips to the Oregon Coast and his travels to various parts of the world. His greatest joy was his family.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church, 201 SW Dorian Avenue, Pendleton, Oregon.

Em is survived by his wife, Rosalie Wheeler, of College Place; a sister, Mary Lou (Rick) Malchow, of Bend, Ore; a son, Brad (Pam) Wheeler of Tualatin, Ore.; a daughter, Cindy (James) Richman, of Spokane; a daughter, Becky (Don) Alvarez, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and step-children, Annette Bergevin, of Walla Walla, Robert (Shannon) Bergevin, of Walla Walla, Angela (Jarrad) Markley, of North Bend, Wash.; grandchildren, Trent (Janine) Wheeler, of Portland, Jennifer (Jon) Wilson, of Portland, Jacob and Nolan Bliss of Spokane, Kaitlyn Alvarez, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; step-grandchildren, Samantha and Jamison Markley, Jaden Bergevin, Liam and Derrek Bergevin; and great-granddaughters, Simone and Reese Wheeler.
