DeSales Knowledge Bowl team claims first place in match

WALLA WALLA - Students on DeSales Catholic High School's Knowledge Bowl team took first place Thursday at a Tri-Cities competition.

DeSales' No. 1 team placed first with a score of 120, beating out second-place Kamiakin High School, which scored 86 points overall, according to results posted on the ESD 123 website.

The DeSales' winning team members are Peter Vander Griend, captain; Kincaid Schmitz, Dani Hal, Heather Diaz, Hanna Schoeppner and Joshua Scheel.

Thirty teams representing regional schools competed Thursday at the event, hosted by Kamiakin High School at a community church.

The DeSales team will compete March 1 for a regional meet in Waitsburg.

Then it has its sights on competing for the state tournament March 26 in Spokane, said Kathy Ruthven, DeSales Knowledge Bowl coach.
