WAITSBURG - Southeast 2B League regular-season champion Waitsburg-Prescott celebrated Senior Night at Kison Court with a 59-36 boys high school basketball victory over Tri-Cities Prep here Friday night.

W-P, No. 8 in the latest Class 2B state poll, improved to 11-0 in league and 17-1 overall.

Waitsburg-Prescott closed out its regular season Saturday night at Liberty Christian.

W-P - starting seniors T.J. Hofer, Kris Cady, Guillermo Hernandez, David Brock, and Tre Brannock - led just 8-5 after one quarter.

"We had a different starting lineup," W-P coach T.J. Scott said. "We were out of kilter on offense, but we played great defense."

Waitsburg-Prescott held the Jaguars to just two first-period field goals.

Junior Zach Bartlow paced a 15-6 W-P surge in the second quarter with six of his team-high 14 points. Cady, who ended up with 12 points in the game, added four and Matt Hamilton scored three as Waitsburg-Prescott took a 23-11 lead into halftime.

W-P got its offense on track in the third quarter. Bartlow and Dustin Wooderchak chalked up five points apiece while Hofer and Hamilton contributed four each to help extend the spread to 26, 45-19, by the conclusion of the frame.

"We moved the ball well in the second and third quarters," Scott said. "This is the most unselfish team I've coached. They just as soon make a good pass for a layin.

"They have a good 2-3 zone that's given us fits the last two or three years," Scott said of the Jaguars. "It's hard to practice against it. We prepared for it all week."

Tri-Cities Prep won the fourth quarter thanks to 6-foot-4 Jameson Pedersen, who registered 11 points to end the night with a game-high 17. He also led the Jaguars with 10 rebounds.

Hernandez led a 62-30 W-P advantage on the glass with 11 caroms.

"We attacked the boards," Scott said. "I loved the effort. I can never fault the effort.

"It was a good team effort. We're enjoying the ride right now."
