Dayton boys beat Tri-Cities Prep

PASCO - Dayton overcame a sluggish start to go on a 19-3 second-period run and the Bulldogs went on to defeat Tri-Cities Prep 48-37 in boys Southeast 2B basketball action Saturday night.

The Jaguars raced to a 12-7 lead after one before the Bulldogs got the ship turned around.

"We came out a little slow," Bulldog coach Roy Ramirez said. "We were a little impatient and took some shots we shouldn't have. In the second, we worked the ball and got the ball where we needed it. We turned up the defensive intensity and shut them down."

The Bulldogs got a balanced scoring attack as three players scored in double digits. Hayden Fullerton and Kroft Sunderland led the way with 12 points each. Colton Bickelhaupt chipped in 10.

Joey Schlachter added eight points. Schlachter grabbed 13 rebounds and Sunderland hauled down 12 as the Bulldog big men dominated the glass.

"They (Schlachter and Sunderland) got a lot of offensive rebounds," Ramirez said. "They did a good job."

Dayton finishes the regular season with the win and a 7-5 league mark. The Bulldogs finish tied with Liberty Christian for third and the two, having split in the regular season, will playoff for third Monday at a site and time to be determined.

The winner gets third, but the loser will face a loser-out district playoff game Tuesday against the winner of Monday's battle for fifth between TCP and WWVA.
