WALLA WALLA - The Whitman College women's basketball team moved back into a tie for the fourth and final Northwest Conference playoff berth with an 83-65 victory over Willamette Saturday night in Sherwood Center.

Whitman, now 13-10 on the season, squared its NWC mark at 7-7, moving into a three-way tie for fourth place with Whitworth and Linfield.

Whitman hosts Whitworth at 6 p.m. Tuesday in a game that will have a large bearing on the final playoff spot. The Missionaries then conclude their regular season slate next Friday at Pacific.

Led by junior Jenele Peterson, who tallied 15 points and snared seven rebounds, Whitman overwhelmed Willamette with a balanced attack that saw all 12 players dent the scoring column.

Junior Anna Forge and sophomore Kelly Peterson added 12 and 11 points, respectively, and both players grabbed seven rebounds.

Whitman also got nine points from first-year forward Sarah Anderegg and eight points apiece from senior Rebecca Sexton and junior Jennifer Keyes.

Sexton, honored after the game as Whitman's lone senior, also blocked three shots, boosting her career-total to 103, while Keyes added to Whitman's rebounding dominance with six boards.

Meghan White, a first-year center, led all rebounders with 12. Tiffani Brewer, another of Whitman's first-year players, chipped in with seven points and three assists.

Erin Barclay paced Willamette with 14 points and five rebounds. Kaileigh Westermann gave the Bearcats 11 points and eight rebounds. Shayna Glynn also scored 11 points.
