Wa-Hi boys lose to Davis in second round of District action

YAKIMA - A trip to Davis didn't prove fruitful for the Wa-Hi boys in Columbia Basin Big Nine District action Saturday night.

The Blue Devils (10-12 overall) lost 51-35 in the double-elimination second round, sending them to Chiawana next week for a loser-out contest.

Davis led 21-19 at the half, but came out in the third quarter with a vengeance, outscoring the Blue Devils 16-8 in the third and 14-8 in the fourth.

"We defended very well for most of the night," said Wa-Hi coach John Golden. "We held them to 36 percent and gave up 21 points in the first, but we just turned the ball over too much."

Wa-Hi had 23 turnovers to Davis' 11 on the night.

"We played well enough to win defensively, and well enough to win offensively, but we couldn't shoot," Golden said.

Chiawana beat Wa-Hi twice in the regular season. The Friday game will give Wa-Hi the chance to avenge those losses.

"We've got to prepare," Golden said. "Chiawana's a team we've played pretty tough twice, but it's going to be a tough game. It's loser-out, so anything can happen. Now, we're going to have to get back to work and see if we can't find a way to defend them and pick up a win."
