Walla Walla County comp plan cycle opens

The process is a chance to change the planning document and rules governing development.

WALLA WALLA -- Walla Walla County is now accepting applications to amend its Comprehensive Plan and development regulations.

Applications must be submitted by 5 p.m. on March 31 to the Joint Community Development Agency, 55 Moore St.

The county will not accept proposals to change urban growth areas this year except for technical corrections, said Tom Glover, agency director. College Place and Walla Walla are also foregoing changes to their boundaries to prepare for next year's cycle.

The Comp Plan provides the policy framework for land use planning and related decisions over a 20-year span. The county's development regulations are what implement the policies in the plan.

After the application period closes, a series of hearings will be scheduled to take comments on which applications will be placed on the preliminary and final dockets. Those hearings will be held by the county Planning Commission and by the county commissioners at times and dates to be announced.

Information on the proceedings and the applications will be posted on the joint development agency's website and comments will be accepted via mail or e-mail, Glover said.

The county's current plan and development regulations are also posted on the Joint Community Development Agency's Web site. Information is available by calling 524-4710.
