Area grapplers head into big weekend tourneys

Wa-Hi, Mac-Hi and Pomeroy are attending state and district competitions.

WALLA WALLA - It's time for the best wrestlers in the area to either finish their year or reach the biggest stage in the state.

Wa-Hi has two alternates headed to this week's Mat Classic in Tacoma, while Mac-Hi will send 26 grapplers to districts in Ontario and Pomeroy will send a quartet to the Class 1B/2B state meet, also in Tacoma.

The Blue Devils hope to get Logan Reardon (215 pounds) and Gerald Maib into the meet.

"Either way, it will be a great experience for the kids," said Wa-Hi head coach Clayton Hudiburg. "We hope they can get into the tournament, but either way it's going to be exciting."

The Pirates will be represented by Jacob Moore (140), Tory Knebel (160), Wyatt Jankins (171) and Austin Reisdorph (189).

"All our guys are in tough divisions," said Pomeroy head coach Randy Mulrony. "We know it won't be easy, but we are all excited."

Mac-Hi is a week away from state and headed for districts with 26 representatives.

They are guided by Jessie Sargent (125), Patrick Sheets (140) and Jake Morris (145).

"We have a lot of talent" said Mac-Hi head coach Beau Chester. "We're looking forward to see who makes it through."
