WAITSBURG - It was a rough night for the Walla Walla Valley Academy boys, but the dominant force that is the Waitsburg-Prescott boys continued to roll with a 59-43 win in Southeast 2B district play.

W-P (19-1 overall, 12-0 in league) built a five-point lead after five minutes, gaining an 11-6 edge after eight minutes that they never relinquished.

"This was the kind of game we have played," said W-P head coach T.J. Scott. "We get a lead and then maintain it defensively."

For WWVA, it was a hole they could never get out of.

"We knew that letting them get the lead was going to make things tough because they are a good defensive team," said WWVA head coach Scott Wagner. "This is something like our seventh game in eight days, so the guys may be a little worn down."

WWVA (12-11, 4-8) was paced by 12 points from James Beck, while W-P got 16 from Matthew Hamilton.

"This was third time we have played WWVA and probably the best we have played against them overall," Scott said. "It was a good win."

Both teams will continue in the tournament Friday at Whitman College as the district tourney comes to an end.
