Jerome Vaughn
Sept. 27, 1920 - Feb. 7, 2011

Jerome (J.W.) Wellington Vaughn, 90, of Touchet, passed away Monday, Feb. 7, 2011. He was born Sept. 27, 1920, in Grand Forks, N.D., to Burla and Dorothy Vaughn. He and his family left North Dakota when he was a young boy, traveling to Montana and then settling in the Spokane area. He later met his future wife, Jean Roberts, of Spokane, and they were married on Nov. 29, 1939.

As a young boy he worked for the WPA, during the great depression, he then joined the CCC'S at Metaline Falls, Wash. (Camp at Sullivan Lake). For most of his years he worked in Spokane, in the meat packing industry, however he was skilled at many other jobs, a lot of them being in the out of doors (which he preferred).

After retirement he and wife Jean, moved to Touchet where he lived for the past 40 years, until his passing.

For many years he was a member of the Walla Walla 59er's Horse Club, making many rides over the Blue Mountains, which he loved to do. He was a excellent horseman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Burla and Dorothy Vaughn; two sisters; one infant son; three grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Jean, of 71 years; daughters, Leona Raven (Larry), Marie Howell (Doug); son, Jerry Vaughn (Carol); brother, Richard Vaughn (Wanda); 8 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

He was devoted to his family and was a great husband, dad and grampa. His wonderful stories, wit and laughter will be missed by all.

The family would like to thank Dr. Eric Ball, Dr. John Sislow, Dr. Maynard Bronstein, Dr. Sumong Wongsuwan, and the Walla Walla Hospice.

There will be a memorial for him at a later time with a notice in the paper as to when and where.
Herring Groseclose Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
