WALLA WALLA - A masked robber wielding a gun got away with two 12-packs of beer from a local convenience store early today, authorities said.
The Walla Walla Police Department reports that about 1 a.m., a suspect wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt walked into the Zip Zone, 110 N. Ninth Ave., and toward the beer cooler in the back of the store. The suspect grabbed the beer and headed to the front of the store, when the store's clerk noticed the suspect was holding a gun, according to a news release. The suspect left without contacting the clerk, and was seen by witnesses leaving the area in a gold-colored sedan along with another individual, according to the release.
A Walla Walla County Sheriff's deputy located a similar vehicle parked several blocks away from the scene of the crime, according to the release. As the deputy got closer, several known gang members left the area, authorities said. At the scene, the deputy found open containers of the same brand of beer taken from the mart, according to the release.
The Special Teams Unit of the city's Police Department is handling the investigation.
