It was an emotional victory for W-P Friday night as Megan Withers, second from left, howled and hugged Alyssa Hafen (No. 14) and Genesis Pearson following their 40-36 win over the DeSales Irish at Whitman's George Ball Court Friday night. The win gives the W-P girls the No. 1 seed out of the District 9 2B Tournament.

The thrill of the rally could be felt as DeSales coach Tim Duncan and the Irish bench showed their enthusiasm with one of DeSales' second-half leads. The celebration was only passing as W-P pulled away in the final minutes and held on for the win Friday night at George Ball Court.

Even the reach of 5-foot, 11-inch W-P's Alyssa Hafen wasn't long enough to grab the ball as she and DeSales' Ali Zander dove to the court.

With the Irish girls down 15-16 at the half a flag waving DeSales fan tried to rally the Irish for the rest of the game. It almost worked with DeSales taking the lead a couple of times, but ultimately going down to defeat against W-P in the final minutes of play.

Cheesehead chatter and rousing support from the DeSales fans helped keep the Irish girls in spirit going up against W-P Friday night at Whitman's George Ball Court.
