TACOMA - It was a triumphant night for Pomeroy's wrestling team at the B-level Mat Classic, with junior Tory Knebel taking home a state championship at 160 pounds, while sophomore Wyatt Jenkins (171) finished second and junior Jacob Moore (140) and sophomore Austin Reisdorph (189) both took home third place.
The Pirates also scored a fourth-place finish as a team.
Knebel, who had placed third at state the last two years, topped Logan Zunker of Reardan, who he also beat at regionals in his final match.
"I couldn't be prouder of Tory and our whole team," said Pomeroy head coach Derek Shawley. "For us to finish fourth is a real accomplishment."
Pomeroy finished behind Warden, Kittias and Readan.
Jenkins picked up a trio of wins before falling to Myron Smith of South Bend in the championship match.
"Wyatt was right there," Shawley said. "If just a couple of points had gone the other way, then we would have two champions, but being a sophomore, he has time."
Jacob Moore bounced back from a semifinal loss to score a 4-3 win to get his medal, while Reisdorph took his final match 3-1.
"If you had told me we would have four guys walk out of an event like this with medals before this thing started, I would have told you I would be pretty happy," Shawley said. "And it really really."
