WALLA WALLA - Ben Servatius scored a game-high 29 points to lead Asotin to a 60-53 victory over Dayton in the final game of the Southeast 2B District 9 boys basketball tournament at Whitman College's Sherwood Center Saturday night.

Asotin earned the district's No. 2 seed to a Class 2B regional tournament in Wenatchee next weekend with the triumph.

The Bulldogs' season ended at 10-11.

Hot shooting allowed the Panthers to establish a double-digit lead after one quarter. Asotin shot 53 percent (8-for-15) in the period and led 20-7 at the quarter buzzer.

Servatius set the pace in the first quarter with nine points for the Panthers - who formed a 10-0 advantage after just three minutes of play.

Garrett Turner, who led the Bulldogs with 27 points, did his best to keep Dayton within shouting distance with all seven of his team's points in period one and added seven more in the second quarter.

But Servatius scored six in the second quarter as the Panthers managed to maintain control and went to intermission up by 11, 34-23.

The 11-point spread remained unchanged by the end of the third quarter. Each team scored 10 points.

Servatius scored six in period three while Dayton's points were produced by five different players with two points apiece including Turner.

Turner scored 11 points in the final stanza and brought the Bulldogs within six, 47-41, with a driving, two-point bucket at the 5:47 mark.

Dayton's rally, though, would end there.

"In the second half, we got after them a little bit," Dayton coach Roy Ramirez said. "We had opportunities, but we couldn't get the buckets to get over the top."

Asotin ended up shooting 44 percent from the floor (22-for-50) compared with 39 percent (21-of-54) for Dayton.

"They shot the ball extremely well, especially in that first quarter," Ramirez said. "They can shoot the ball."

Saturday's contest was the last for a trio of Dayton seniors - Dain Henderson, Jason Norris, and Seth Jackson.

"The core of our group is back next year," Ramirez said. "We're looking forward to next year. I think we'll battle for the top position (in the Southeast 2B League). Next year can't come soon enough."
