PENDLETON - It's on to the State 2A tournament for the Weston-McEwen girls basketball team after a hard-fought defensive struggle with Heppner that ended with a 34-25 win over Hepper and third-place finish in the district tournament.

The win sets up a to be determined road game for the TigerScots, depending on the outcome of the other Saturday games.

"We know we'll be on the road, but everything else is way up in the air," said W-M head coach Amber Dormeus. "The top eight seeds get home games, and we didn't quite make it that far yet, but this year was a great improvement."

W-M is 12-13 overall with a 10-6 league mark in Dormeus' second year. They were 4-20 in her first season.

Heppner failed to score in the third quarter as W-M turned a two-point halftime deficit into a four-point advantage, and the TigerScots never looked back.

"This game was kind of the definition of our year," Dormeus said of the win over Heppner. "To hold a quality team like that scoreless for 10 or 11 minutes is a huge accomplishment."

W-M was paced by 16 points from Morgan Entze and eight rebounds from Tiffany Cain.

"We have come a long way this year," Doremus said. "We kept attacking night in and night out, and tonight was no different."
