COLLEGE PLACE - Johnson & Wales lived up to its No. 1 ranking in the NAIA Independent schools with an 84-50 win over Walla Walla University in women's non-conference basketball action Saturday at the WWU women's basketball tournament. Johnson & Wales finished the tourney at 2-0.

Johnson & Wales raced to a 48-25 lead at the break, and with all five starters scoring in double digits, Johnson & Wales never looked back in cruising to the win.

"We had a difficult time getting going," Wolves coach Mike Patterson said. "We couldn't get from first to second gear and (then) never got out of second. They got us out of our game plan and we were just stuck in the mud. We're young and missed some defensive assignments and were a step behind. They are ranked No. 1 and rightly so."

Sierra King led the Wolves with a double double, 19 points and 10 rebounds, and Heather McFadden ended her WWU career with a 17-point effort.

Jessica Huebner led the balanced Johnson & Wales attack with 16.

In the other Saturday tourney game, Salish easily out-distanced Northwest Indian College, 103-79.

In Friday action, King scored 23 points and Janelle The pulled down nine rebounds to lead WWU to a 72-67 win over NW Indian College.

Johnson & Wales drilled Salish 105-67 in Friday's tourney opener.

For WWU, Saturday's loss wrapped up the season, and the Wolves bid farewell to three seniors. Sierra King, McFadden, and Bethani King each finished their WWU careers.
