WALLA WALLA -- Marcello Canuto, associate professor of anthropology at Tulane University and director of the Middle American Research Institute, will present "The Classic Kingdoms of the Maya: New Discoveries, Novel Ideas" on Feb. 24 at Whitman College.
Canuto will speak at 7:30 p.m. in Olin Hall Room 157.
Canuto serves as a consultant to the United Nations Development Programme, is a member of the Arqueolog??a Guatemalteca Editorial Board, Instituto Hondure?±o de Antropolog??a e Historia Advisory Board and is an assistant curator of Pre-Columbian Collections at the Peabody Museum.
Canuto's distinctions include a National Geographic Society Grant, The Seaver Institute Grant, Reed Foundation Research Grant, National Science Foundation Grant and Heinz Foundation Grant. His research and teaching specialize in archaeological theory, Mesoamerican prehistory, development of socio-political complexity and remote sensing analysis.
