WALLA WALLA -- Walla Walla High School choirs will present an "Almost Spring Concert" Thursday, with the goal of raising money to support a choir parent battling cancer.

The concert will be at 7 p.m. in the Wa-Hi auditorium, 800 Abbott Road, and is free and open to the public. A suggested donation of $2 will benefit the Henckel family to help cover medical expenses related to treatment of cancer.

Rebekah Henckel is the mother of senior Allison Henckel, who has sung in the choir her four years in high school, said Norb Rossi, choir director. Allison is part of the chamber singers.

The performance will feature Wa-Hi's five choirs: cantabile, chansons, chamber singers, treble ensemble and concert choir. Students will present a range of music, spanning time and cultures. Featured languages for the night include French, Swahili, Italian, German and Latin, with styles ranging from Broadway musicals, to jazz swing, to opera.

The concert is the third in recent years where students have performed to raise funds to support families or staff struck by illness.

"Our choir family has been hit by a lot of stuff like this," Rossi said. "We've tried to take the opportunity to help whenever we can."\
