WALLA WALLA - The Whitman College men's tennis team ran its early season Northwest Conference record to 4-0 with a 9-0 shutout of an outmanned Lewis & Clark squad Saturday afternoon in the Bratton Tennis Center.
Whitman, ranked No. 19 nationally in NCAA Division III, takes a 4-2 season record into a second NWC match early this evening against Linfield in Bratton.
The loss dropped Lewis & Clark to 0-4 in conference and 0-5 on the season.
Whitman opened with a quick 3-0 sweep in doubles.
Playing at No. 1, senior Quin Miller and sophomore Matt Tesmond rolled to an 8-3 victory over George Allen and Quinn Roth-Carter.
Junior Adriel Borshansky and sophomore Sam Sadeghi pitched an 8-0 shutout at No. 2 doubles, beating Cole Pfeiffer and San Franer.
Freshmen Will Huskey and Steven Roston finished the doubles sweep at No. 3, cruising to an 8-1 win over Kerry White and Muneeb Khan.
Miller continued the onslaught at No. 1 singles with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at Allen's expense. Sadeghi rolled over Roth-Carter 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2.
Playing Pfeiffer at No. 3, Borshansky was a 6-1, 6-0 winner. Tesmond dispatched White 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4 singles.
Huskey got the win for Whitman at No. 5 with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Franer. Roston beat Gabriel Trepanier at No. 6 (scores not yet available).
