WALLA WALLA -- A city woman led police on a high-speed chase Monday night, before ending the situation by crashing into a parked, unoccupied vehicle.
Lenora M. Powell, 25, of 1012 W. Willow St. was arrested for investigation of driving under the influence and reckless driving, said Tim Bennett, public information officer for the Walla Walla Police Department.
An officer observed Powell's vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign at the corner of Seventh Avenue and West Alder Street at 11:30 p.m. When the officer attempted to stop Powell, she sped away, running several stop signs and hitting speeds of about 50 mph in the neighborhood, Bennett said.
The chase continued south on several side streets, hitting Chestnut Street and proceeding north to Eighth Avenue, where Powell lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the parked 1988 Ford van, Bennett said.
The driver was alone in the vehicle, Bennett said. Powell was taken into custody and lodged at the Walla Walla County Jail.
