Michael Harry McDonald 65, left us to walk with Jesus, Thursday, Dec. 30, 2010, at his home in Richland. He was a devoted husband, father, grandpa, brother and friend. He had been ill for several years, never losing his sense of humor, and good attitude.

Mike was born in Walla Walla on Feb. 23, 1945, to Harry E. Lee McDonald and Dorothy May McDonald.
When Mike was 6 years old, his family moved to Pasco, where he finished school and enlisted in the Air Force in March 1963. He did two tours of duty in Vietnam, Mike had many stories of the time he spent in the service. He was discharged from the Air Force in July 1971 and came home to Walla Walla to help care for his mother. Mike went to work for the VA Hospital in Walla Walla in 1971. He worked in the police section and engineering until his retirement for health reasons in April 1996.

In 1978 he married his best friend and love of his life, Joan. They raised three children, Jamie, Michael and Kathryn. In 1998 they left Walla Walla to live in Newport, Ore. Mike had such a good time in Newport, he met many good friend and helped start a Moose Lodge and was the junior governor for the lodge. Mike and Joan moved to Richland in January 2001 to manage Three Rivers Retirement Apartments, and then Desert Rose Terrace Apartments in Benton City.

Mike is survived by his wife, Joan at home; son, Michael and wife Amy; daughter, Kathryn and husband Brad of Richland; step-daughter, Jamie Gascon and husband Todd of Walla Walla; grandsons, Michael,
Orion, Kycen; granddaughters, Krystal, Shastell, Victoria, Desirae, Kearstyn, and Stephanie; sisters, Peggy Zwanzig and Kathy Mawhin. Mike was preceded in death by his father, Harry McDonald; mother, Dorothy Martin; sister, Wanda; and brothers, Donald and Forrest McDonald; and son, Michael Stewart.

A memorial service will be held Friday, Jan. 7, 2011, at 1 p.m. at the Prosser Church of the Nazarene, 1939 Highland Drive, Prosser, WA.
