Wendell McKenzie

Wendell D. McKenzie was born Jan. 10, 1941, at Mount Sterling, Ky., to parents, Franklin and Winnie Lee (Abbott) McKenzie. He died Saturday, Dec. 25, 2010 at his home in Hermiston at the age of 69.

He was raised in Cincinnati and moved to The Dalles in 1960. He moved to Milton-Freewater, and was married on Feb. 21, 1961, to Barbara Eileen Coble in Walla Walla. Wendell was a musician and traveled with his wife all over entertaining in Alaska, Oregon, Ohio, Washington, Nevada, Kentucky and Idaho. They moved to Hermiston in 1995 and were members of the Country Church. Wendell enjoyed his music, golf, bowling, and riding his motorcycle.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara, of Hermiston; three brothers, David McKenzie of Kentucky, Don McKenzie of Shady Cove, Ore., and Robert McKenzie of Louisville, Ky.; two sisters, Mildred Head of Sunman, Ind., and Geneva Lewis of Phoenix, Ariz.; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents, Franklin and Winnie McKenzie; four brothers, Delmont, Frankie, John, and James McKenzie; two sisters, Sarah Holly and Maryann Sieg.

A celebration of life service will be held on Monday, Jan. 10, 2010, at 2 p.m. at the Country Church, 32742 Diagonal Road, Hermiston, OR 97838. Disposition was by cremation.
