WALLA WALLA - The recent holiday "Drive Hammered, Get Nailed" campaign resulted in 32 arrests in Walla Walla County, according to the Washington Traffic Safety Commission.
The extra patrols were conducted between Nov. 25 and Jan. 2 in Walla Walla and Asotin counties. The 32 arrests in Walla Walla County were for motorists who were stopped on suspicion of driving under the influence. Statewide, law enforcement officers arrested 3,577 drivers for DUI.
Local participation came from Walla Walla and College Place police departments, as well as the Walla Walla County Sheriff's Office and the Washington State Patrol. Extra patrols were funded by a grant from the Washington Traffic Safety Commission, and are a way to curb the hundreds of deaths caused by impaired drivers each year.
