PASCO - Walla Walla Community College dropped a heartbreaker in double overtime on the road Saturday, dropping its road tilt to Columbia Basin College 96-94 in double overtime.

The loss dropped WWCC to 7-6 in the year.

"It was our game to take, but we just couldn't close it out in overtime," said WWCC head coach Jeff Reinland. "We grabbed the lead, but they kept coming back. It's kind of a frustrating night."

WWCC got 25 points from boy Jay Payne and Jason Smith by the duo was trumped by 30 points from CBC's Jordan Poyner. The Warriors also nailed 14 three pointers on the night, but that too did not sway the outcome.

"We shot the ball well, but we didn't play well enough on the defensive end to earn the win," Reinland said. "Hopefully well bounce back next time out."

WWCC is next slated to take on Blue Mountain on Wednesday.

PHOENIX - Walla Walla University continued to play well but couldn't pull out a win against Southwestern College Saturday night.

The Wolves fell 81-74.

"The story of the game was shooting and free throws," said WWU head coach Gerry Larsen.

The Wolves shot 100 percent from the free throw line, sinking 15-15 - but Southwestern's 30-34 for 88 percent still doubled them.

Southwestern went 23-47 from the field, while Walla Walla was 24-67.

"They're a really good 3-point team and we actually held them down," Larsen said. "We focused on that. Our defense did a really good job at keeping them from making 3s. ... But we let them get to the basket way too much."

The Wolves had 12 turnovers on the night, including seven steals.

Tristan Greenridge led the Wolves with 14 points.

The Wolves are 1-18. They play at LaSierra University in Riverside at 7:30 tonight.
