Stephen Voss

Stephen Voss
Nov. 4, 1945 - Jan. 7, 2011

Stephen Voss died suddenly Friday, Jan. 7, 2011, with family.

He was very loved and respected by all of his friends and family. He was born in Lewiston, Ida., Nov. 4, 1945, to Ferdinand and Clara Voss. Stephen lived all of his childhood near Princeton, Ida., on the family farm. He graduated from Potlatch High School in 1964 as Salutatorian, then went on to earn a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Idaho.

After graduating from college he moved to Pasco, where he began a forty year career with the Army Corps. of Engineers. He was the Project Engineer for Ice Harbor/Lower Monumental Dams for over twenty years. He was promoted to Assistant Chief of Operations for the Walla Walla District and worked in that position until he retired January 2008. At his retirement a turbine was named "The Vosser" in his honor. As Assistant Chief of Operations, Stephen supervised operations of Dwarshack, McNary, Ice Harbor, Little Goose, and Lower Granite Dams. He was directly involved with running the operations of the hydro-electric projects, fishery programs and recreation areas along the Columbia and Snake Rivers. Paul Winborg was instrumental in Steve's career as well as life long friend Bob Schloss and Corps. friends John Blair, Larry Walker and Wayne John.

Steve found joy in finding the perfect gift for each person and every occasion. He attended every event for family, friends and employees regardless of the distance. After retirement he had extra time to shop for those perfect gifts and deals. As a family, we laugh that he should have purchased stock in Goodwill. Steve enjoyed remodeling projects for himself and his family. We could count on him to come with the perfect tool and the know how to get the job done. He cherished spending time with his family, including attending basketball games, watching movies, family gatherings, playing at the park with his grandsons and would come at a moments notice to help in any way needed.

Steve was married to Connie Selvidge, Sept. 3, 1966, and was blessed with his first daughter Diana. August 30, 1975, he married Connie Slater and welcomed their children, Desiree, Stephanie and Michael. He is survived by his daughter, Diana Lancaster, husband Jeff, granddaughters Jessica, Jade and great-granddaughter Isabella. His daughter Desiree Mains, husband TJ, and grandsons Parker and Grant. Daughter Stephanie Scherperel, and finance' Matt Menshew, and son Michael Voss. Sister Rita Cannon, husband Richard. Brothers Ralph and wife Sharon, Randy and wife Deana, and Mark Voss along with many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Ferdinand and Clara Voss; and brother Stanley Voss. We love you dear dad, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend and thank God for the time you shared with us.

A memorial celebrating his life will be held Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Prosser First Baptist Church 956 Kinney, Way Prosser. Burial will be at a later time at the family plot at Rock Creek Cemetery near Princeton, Ida. Donations can be made in his name to the Special Olympics or a charity of your choice.
