Myrna Whitmire
Nov. 11, 1932 - Nov. 30, 2010

Myrna Lou Whitmire was born Nov. 11, 1932, in Kent, Wash., the fourth child of Alexander Joseph Dieringer and third child of Georgia Florence Williams. Her older siblings include sisters Beverly June Waid, Lora Ila-Jean Slater; and a beloved brother, Jack Gordon Dieringer. Both sisters preceded Myrna in death. Jack lives in Dayton. Myrna passed away on Nov. 30, 2010.

Myrna married John Vincent Clague, on August 19, 1950, in Spokane. She and John had three sons together, John D., James Christian, and Joseph Ewan. They lived in Walla Walla, after they were married. John worked in the lumber business and Myrna was busy raising children during the early years of their marriage. After the children were old enough, Myrna went to work at Whitman College as a secretary for the professors in the social sciences department. She loved the activity in this job, and interacting with the professors. She found this work to be intellectually stimulating, something she desired even though she never had the opportunity to go to college.

John and Myrna divorced in 1969. Myrna married Elmer Lee Whitmire on Nov. 1, 1972, in Pendleton. Lee passed away unexpectedly six months later. After Lee passed away Myrna moved to Portland, where she lived the rest of her life..

After college, her three boys married and Myrna was an exemplary mother-in-law. She will be missed by her daughters-in-law, Cindy Clague, Sherry Cannastra, and Christie Clague. Her six grandchildren, Joshua Daniel Clague, Jesse Aaron Settlemeyer; Nathaniel Christian Clague, Jacob Ewan Clague, Patrick Gary Clague, and Caitlin Sue Davis. She was preparing to spoil a new generation as well, her 4.7 great grandchildren, Ewan Nathaniel Clague, Eli Christian Settlemeyer, Lucy Ann Davis, and Fiona Gwyneth Clague, and the yet to be named baby girl Settlemeyer.
