Whitman's Peterson NWC Student-Athlete of Week

WALLA WALLA - Jenele Peterson, a guard on the Whitman College women's basketball team, has been named Northwest Conference Student-Athlete of the Week.

Peterson tallied a career-high 26 points against Puget Sound on Friday and added a game-high 23 points against Pacific Lutheran on Saturday.

The 5-foot-7 guard made 17 of 30 shots from the floor, including five of seven attempts from the 3-point line, in the two games. She also averaged 4.5 assists (against just 1.5 turnovers) and 3.5 rebounds. She was on the floor for 37 of the 40 minutes in both games.

For the season, Peterson is averaging a team-high 14.9 points through 12 games. That ranks her sixth in the NWC in scoring. She also ranks fifth in free throw accuracy (48-58, 82.8 percent), seventh in assists (2.83 apg) and 14th in field goal accuracy (59-131, 45.0 percent).
