SANDPOINT, Idaho - Colleen Gibbons and Reid Reininger both placed first in their divisions for the Bluewood Alpine Race Team (BART) at the Chad Engstrom Memorial Race at Schweitzer Mountain Resort last weekend.

BART is one of seven Emerald Empire Youth Ski League (EEYSL) member teams and fielded 12 athletes at the event, which featured Giant Slalom races both Saturday and Sunday. The Chad Engstrom Memorial Race is traditionally the first race of the season for the EEYSL.

Gibbons won the Ladies J-3 (ages 13-14) both days, while Reininger twice won the Men's J-3 (ages 13-14) at the event.

Despite being a small part of the total of 152 racers competing, BART skiers finished well enough to set the team solidly in the middle of the team standings. The team's oldest two skiers, Reininger and Gibbons, captured four first place finishes while the team's two youngest skiers, Mackenzie Davis and Evangeline Siess, both missed gates on Saturday but rallied to claim two top 10 and one top five placings for the weekend.

Reininger and Gibbons used this event as a warm-up for the Junior Olympic Qualifier at Mount Spokane this weekend.

The rest of the BART racers will not be traveling this weekend and will continue their training at Bluewood in preparation for the next EEYSL event, 49 Degrees North's Fast Blast Jan. 28-30.
