COLLEGE PLACE - Walla Walla University came out on top of Southwestern College in an NAIA DII matchup Thursday night.

The Wolves topped the Arizona school, 83-75.

"It was a really nice night for us," said WWU head coach Gerry Larson. "We were able to jump out early on them and played a great first half. I think we had a couple of guys that they didn't think that they had to get out on that burned them from deep."

WWU had a 45-27 lead at the half, keyed by six 3s on as many attempts from Tom Creasey, who finished the night tied with Tristan Greenridge's team-high 18 points.

Athough WWU was outscored in the second half 48-38, the big lead held.

"They pressured us a lot harder in the second half," Larson said. "Tristan did a great job of handling the pressure, but they still made a good push."

A.J. Koch had 20 points and Daniel Stanton had 25 for the Eagles, far outpacing the rest of their team.

"I was really proud of our defense in the first half," Larson said. "We shut down a lot of their options and limited them. We had a lot of energy on the defensive end."

WWU outscored SWC on 3s by a dominant margain. On top of Creasey's 6-for-6 night from three-point range, WWU got another seven from the rest of its squad, while SWC only hit five as a team.

Bryce Doherty led the Wolves with eight rebounds, including three on the offensive glass, while Greenridge nearly out-assisted SWC by himself with four dimes versus the Eagles five.

"Usually our goal is to keep teams under 65 because that's what we usually score, but tonight we were hitting our shots early so we were able to go a little higher," Larson said. "I'll give them credit though. They didn't give up."

Walla Walla moves to 2-19 with the win. The Wolves host West Coast Baptist on Monday at 6 p.m.
