ST. JOHN - Pomeroy's boys were tied with St. John-Endicott's Eagles at 28-all at halftime here Friday night, but a 17-10 Eagles third-quarter run held up as the Pirates dropped the Southeast 1B League game, 63-51.

"We came out flat in the third quarter and missed open shots," Pomeroy coach Brian Koller said. "We were down seven, and it stayed that until the final seconds of the game. We couldn't get over that seven-point hump. We had a number of opportunities to get the score under seven, but we turned it over too many times. We couldn't take care of the ball."

The Pirates lost starting point guard Sean Beale early in the fourth quarter, when Beale fouled out.

"That didn't help matters," Koller said.

Mitch Ruchert's 15 points led Pomeroy.

Mason VanLith and Cole McCanna each scored 19 for the Eagles, with VanLith hitting 9-of-12 from the free-throw line.

Pomeroy, at 2-5 in SE1B play and 3-9 overall after Friday's game, hosted Colton Saturday night.
