ENTERPRISE - A strong first half for the Weston-McEwen girls basketball team faded away in the second here Friday night as the TigerScots fell to the Outlaws, 43-26, in a turnover-plagued Blue Mountain Conference game.
W-M lost the ball 36 times on the night, which proved to be a major factor in the team's second-half struggles after taking a two-point bulge into the break.
"Our girls played great in the first half," said W-M head coach Amber Dormeus. "Our defense was the key and that set up some baskets for us. That's a first-place team we played, so to come into their place like that was great."
In the second half it was Enterprise that turned up the defense, holding W-M to only nine points in the final 16 minutes.
Shelby Graning led the Outlaws with 10 points. Tiffany Cain and Molly von Borstel paced the TigerScots with seven points each.
"We just kind of left our defense in the locker room for whatever reason," Doremus said of her team's second-half struggles. "We had a couple of fundamental breakdowns, and once they got rolling, we just weren't quite able to match them.
"When you aren't quite as sharp on defense it hurts your offense, but still we have a lot to be proud of."
The TigerScots hosted Heppner Saturday.
