BURBANK - Despite a four-point second-quarter swoon, Burbank's boys basketball team held on to defeat visiting Royal 42-32 here Saturday night in a South Central Conference Eastern Division game.
The Coyotes built a 12-3 lead after one quarter before their offense slumbered in the second quarter. The Knights, however, managed to trim just three points off their deficit and trailed 16-10 at the halftime break.
Burbank then enjoyed an offensive resurgence in third quarter to put the game away.
Tanner Woody scored 10 points and Nathan Roberts added nine to pace the Coyotes' offensive attack. Neil Leitz and Danny Vermeer tallied eight points apiece for Royal.
The victory boosted Burbank's record to 8-6 overall and 4-2 in the SCC East, good for sole possession of second place behind Mabton, which improved to 6-0, 11-3 with its 68-25 victory over Wahluke on Saturday.
Royal is now 3-3 in the East, 6-7 overall, and the Knights are tied with Connell for third place in the division standings. Connell, 5-7 for the season, was idle Saturday.
Next up for the Coyotes is a Thursday game against the division-leading Vikings in Mabton. Burbank hosts Kiona-Benton (2-4, 6-8) on Friday.
