BURBANK - Sophomore Harley McBride sank nine of her 10 shots from the floor here Saturday night and scored 20 points to power Burbank to a 55-20 girls South Central Conference Eastern Division basketball victory over Royal.

The Coyotes evened their division record at 3-3 and improved to 5-9 overall with the victory. The Knights stumbled to 0-6 in the division and 1-12 overall.

Burbank burst to a 23-5 lead after one quarter and never looked back as the Coyotes remained in a tie for fourth place in the standings with Mabton, which defeated Wahluke 43-27 Saturday. Connell, idle Saturday, now shares the top spot in the East with Kiona-Benton, both teams at 5-1, after the Bears lost 50-42 to River View on Saturday.

River View is alone in third place at 4-2.

"We were able to jump on them right away," Burbank coach John Muchlinski said of his team's fast start Saturday night. "Our pressure was too much for them, and we were able to force some turnovers early and got off to a hot start."

Freshman Rachael Roberts was the only other Coyote in double-figure scoring with 10 points. Senior Sarah Rude added eight points and another freshman, Julie Mosqueda, added seven points.

Steph Guadarrama and Terrin Gonzales tallied six points each to lead the Knights.

"This was a good confidence booster as we start the second half of league play," Muchlinski said.

The Coyotes play at Mabton Thursday in a game that will break the tie for fourth place in the East standings. Burbank hosts Kiona-Benton on Friday.
