WALLA WALLA - A group looking for something old and something new is coming to town.
The Treasure Hunters Roadshow will be in Walla Walla starting Tuesday, seeking to buy antiques and collectibles.
The Springfield, Ill., company will have a team of evaluators at the Holiday Inn Express in Walla Walla for five days to examine items brought in by local residents. If the item or items are something a collector wants, an offer to purchase may be made.
The items the team in Walla Walla will be seeking includes coins and paper currency issued prior to 1965, toys, dolls, trains, vintage jewelry, old and modern musical instruments, war memorabilia, gold and silver jewelry, costume jewelry, advertising memorabilia, swords, knives, daggers and, as stated in a release, "the unusual."
There is no charge for having an item or items evaluated. According to Matt Enright, vice president of national media, if an offer to buy an item is made, the owner is under no obligation to sell. If a person chooses to sell, payment will be made at that time with 10 percent deducted for Roadshow services.
Treasure Hunters Roadshow is not affiliated with the Public Broadcasting System's Antiques Roadshow. Enright said the enterprise was started in 1996 by Jeff Parsons, the company's chief executive officer, and has grown from a small-scale operation to a business that now visits cities throughout the United States as well as Canada and Europe.
