DAYTON -- Columbia County's E-911 operations will be transferred to Bill Peters, director of Columbia County Emergency Management, effective Feb. 1.

The operation had been under the control of the county Sheriff's Office since August 1993, until a cost-cutting effort spurred county commissioners to approve the transfer in December, according to a news release.

"I want to assure everyone we currently serve that there will be no immediate change in services," Peters said in the release.

As part of the change, Peters will take over as director of Columbia County Public Safety Communications and Tim Quigg will become Communications Center supervisor.

The full transition of services is expected to take several months.

For more information, call Peters at 509-382-2534.
