WALLA WALLA - Cory Mack and Eric Yardley, a pair of Eastern Washington natives, won't have far to travel to play summer ball in 2011. The Walla Walla Sweets have signed the Seattle University Redhawks duo to West Coast League contracts for the coming season.
Yardley, a sophomore utility player, was named West Coast League honorable mention for Moses Lake in 2010. The Richland native went 2-2 with an ERA of 1.85 in 21 appearances for the Pirates. He had five saves and struck out 32 batters while walking only vie. In three appearances against Walla Walla, Yardley pitched 7 2/3 innings and gave up one run on one hit while striking out nine Sweets.
Prior to the WCL season, Yardley went 1-1 at Seattle U during his freshman campaign.
Mack, a freshman left-handed pitcher, is a three-time honoree of the BBNW Eastern Washington Select Scout team and was named to the second team all-Greater Spokane League last spring as a senior. The Central Valley High School product wrapped up his senior season with a 2.86 ERA in 35 2/3 innings while limiting opposing hitters to a .268 average.
The Bears won a split of the GSL title in 2010 with a dramatic two-game sweep of then-first place Mount Spokane on the regular season's final days.
