MOSES LAKE - Moses Lake came out with a vengeance here Saturday in girls Columbia Basin Big Nine 4A basketball action.

The Chiefs were smarting from a 53-37 Friday loss to Chiawana, and took it out on Wa-Hi.

Moses Lake improved to 6-2 in league with a 61-36 win.

With University of Oregon signee Jordan Loera scoring the first nine points, the Chiefs raced to an 18-6 lead after one.

"We weren't ready to play," Wa-Hi coach Jill Meliah said. "We talked about limiting Jordan's touches and knowing where she is and making someone else beat us. Then she scores the first nine points.

"Moses Lake is a tough place to play," Meliah continued. "But we need to grow up and be ready to play on the road. We are road warriors (three of Wa-Hi's last four are on the road) the rest of the way. We have to figure out how to play on the road."

The Chiefs expanded the lead to 33-12 at intermission before the Blue Devils figured it out and finished with a 24-point second half.

"We learned a lesson about playing on the road," Meliah said. "We played much better in the second half."

Loera led all scorers with 17 points and Kyleigh Gamez added 14 as the Chiefs shot 54 percent, 28-of-52 from the floor for the night.

Freshman Jaiden Hodnefield nailed four treys and finished with a team-high 14 points for the Blue Devils. Sydney Christensen scored nine in the losing effort.

The Blue Devils wrap up their home season Friday against Davis.
