Eleanor L. Batt Scott, 89, passed away on Jan. 23, 2011, atProvidence St. Mary Medical Center.

Mrs. Scott was born to Joseph and Laura Opata Pikutis on Aug. 3, 1921, in Nanticoke, Penn., where she attended elementary and high school. Upon graduation, she moved to New York City, where she worked in the comptroller's office at R. H. Macy's and later was a secretary at Webb & Lynch, an insurance underwriter.

On Feb. 15, 1943, she married USAF Flight Officer Stanley L. Batt. They had two sons and a daughter. The family lived in Florida, Guam, California, Germany, Pennsylvania, Texas, and came to Washington state in July 1957. Her husband died in 1966.

In 1969, she moved to Cheney, Wash., where she was already employed as a library assistant at then-Eastern Washington State College. On Nov. 7, 1970, she married John A. Scott. They moved to Walla Walla in
1973. In 1974, John opened Scott Realty, where she worked until 1985. A few years later, she did bookkeeping at Century 21 Dale Snider Realtors for about three years. Mr. Scott died in 1994.

Of all the things she did, the ones she most enjoyed and cherished were as a wife, mother and homemaker. Family was very important to her. Over the years, she had been a member of or volunteer in various causes or organizations. Her longest volunteer time began in about 1950 in the Association for Retarded Citizens (now, ARC of the United States) and continued until her death. She was an active member of the Grace United Methodist Church. She enjoyed senior aerobics, bridge, plays and other cultural events, visiting shut-ins, reading and continuing education classes at Walla Walla Community College.

Survivors include stepchildren, Sandy Scott of Walla Walla, Jennifer Scott of Spokane, Richard Scott of Spokane, Felicity Hutsell of Wenatchee and David Scott of Boise; four sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; several nieces, nephews and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kathleen Batt; and sons, Miles A. Batt and Jim Batt.

Viewing and visitation will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2011, from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. at the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder, Walla Walla. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the Grace United Methodist Church with Rev. Linda Weistaner officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Mountain Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, Valley Residential Services, Lillie Rice Center or charity of choice through the funeral home.
