New Whitman wi-fi hotspot improves security, access

WALLA WALLA -- Whitman College now has a wi-fi hotspot, compliments of Spectrum Networks. The hotspot provides access to the Internet for campus visitors who do not have a Whitman user account. It replaces the current ad-hoc guest access to 'whitman_wireless.'

According to Kevin Kelly, director of technology infrastructure, visitors should now connect to 'whitman_wifi_hotspot.'

"This change improves security because the whitman_wifi_hotspot is 'outside' the Whitman network. It is also better because visitor usage will no longer compete for Whitman network resources such as bandwidth and network firewall," said Kelly.
