The mayor of Starbuck was arrested Sunday for investigation of driving under the influence, said Columbia County Prosecuting Attorney Rea Culwell.
According to the Columbia County Sheriff's Office, Darcy Linklater, 62, was heading south toward Waitsburg when he was stopped at about 10:50 p.m. at mile post 2 on Mckay-Alto Road.
The reason for the stop was not available before press time today.
Linklater refused to take a breath test for blood alcohol content, officials said. He was lodged in Columbia County jail and released from custody Monday afternoon after making an appearance before a District Court judge, Culwell said today.
When reached this morning at his business, Darver Tackle Shop in Starbuck, the mayor declined to comment.
The investigation is ongoing, Culwell said.
