Rough second half dooms Blue Devils' road effort Friday

YAKIMA - For two quarters, Wa-Hi's boys basketball team looked primed to spring a Big Nine road upset of Davis, but a big second half for the league rival left the Blue Devils on the short end of a 71-49 contest here Friday.

Davis was led by a balanced scoring attack that saw three players crack double figures.

"They hit their shots in the fourth quarter, and we didn't," said Wa-Hi head coach John Golden. "We shot well in the first half, but then we just couldn't get the shots to drop."

Golden pointed to a five-point swing between the end of the third and the beginning of the fourth quarters as the tipping point.

"We were within six," Golden said. "And then it was an 11-point game all of a sudden, and we couldn't bounce back."

Wa-Hi (7-10, 4-5) was paced by an 11-point, 10-rebound effort from Matt Watson.

The Blue Devils were slated to host Wenatchee Saturday night.
