Pomeroy picks up wrestling wins

PASCO - Pomeroy grapplers picked up some wins despite missing a chunk of the team in their final regular-season meet Saturday.

Warden, Garfield-Palouse, Colfax and White Swan joined Pomeroy at Tri-Cities Prep.

Pirate Tory Knebel, wrestling at 160 pounds, went 2-0 on the day and picked up his 100th and 101st prep career victories, defeating Warden's Kenny Sullivan and White Swan's Lucas Hernandez. Knebel is a junior.

Knebel, like several other grapplers, hit the mat sick.

"I'm surprised he even wrestled," said Pomeroy coach Derek Shawley. "There's a massive flu going around here - it's like bronchitis. Our biggest problem right now is getting healthy."

About half the team was out during practices in the last week, Shawley said.

Warden dominated throughout the match, and Shawley expects them to win the 2B state title.

"Warden is the toughest B-school in the state, by far," he said. "They're very deep, and it's their first year as a B team. They're legit, and I can't imagine anyone beating them for the team title."

Pomeroy travels to Almira-Coulee-Hartline for districts next week. The top six wrestlers at districts travel to regionals, and the top five from regionals go to state.
